How to Apply
The first step in becoming a visiting student is to complete our office's application. You will also need to complete an Ecclesiastical Endorsement if you do not have a current one.
(If you are a current employee, please use this link to sign up: BYU Employee Application)
Talk to an Advisor
Many students find the process of applying, enrolling, and selecting classes intimidating. Please know that you don’t have to navigate this process alone! Go to the Advising page to learn how to meet with an advisor.
Deadlines
The Office of Visiting Students seeks to help students who may have missed other strict deadlines for BYU's enrollment programs. We can work with students up through the start of the semester, and in some cases even up until the Add/Drop deadline (the sixth class day of a semester or term). However, some of our programs do have priority or strict deadlines we have to enforce.
General Priority Deadline:
Two weeks prior to the first day of semester or term
In order to ensure that all necessary steps are completed, we can only guarantee that an applicantion will be fully processed if it is sumbitted by this priority deadline. (see Academic Calendar)
Program Specific Strict Deadlines:
Fall Semester: June 1st
Winter Semester: October 1st
The programs we administer which grant access to credit-earning Day sections do have strict deadlines for Fall and Winter semesters. These programs, such as the Post-Baccalaureate or the Concurrent High School, require coordination with the Admissions Office to finalize approval. To accommodate these additional steps an applicant must fill out the Visiting Student Application by the deadline.
Please review additional FAQ items for more details.
If you are concerned that you missed a deadline, please contact our office to verify or to discuss enrollment options that may still be available to you.
Instructions for International Applicants
International students are eligible to apply as visiting students under the following conditions: (1) they are already attending another US school, and (2) the school agrees to maintain their I-20 while they attend BYU during their vacation period.
If you have questions about the application process, please contact our office. We can be reached at visitingstudents@byu.edu or by phone at 801-422-0798.
Honor Code Agreement
Brigham Young University, including the BYU Visiting Student Program, exists to provide an education in an atmosphere consistent with the ideals and principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That atmosphere is created and preserved through commitment to conduct that reflects those ideals and principles.
To ensure the appropriate atmosphere at BYU, each student who is not admitted to BYU in Provo but intends to take classes in a non-admitted status (officially designated as a “nonmatriculated student”), is required to submit the Student Commitment and Confidential Report (also known as the “Ecclesiastical Endorsement”) to register for BYU Evening Classes. See instructions for completing the Ecclesiastical Endorsement.
